Everyone Can Benefit from Massage Therapy
National Massage Therapy Awareness Week was a success. Thank you to everyone who participated during the last week of October! Educating communities about the benefits of massage therapy was a rewarding and enlightening experience.
I kicked off the week volunteering my services at Walter Reed Army Medical Center with Cause, an organization that provides injured soldiers with recreation and entertainment programs while they recover far from home. We performed seated massage to those facing traumatic injuries such as broken bones, amputated limbs, shrapnel wounds, and brain damage. The strength and optimism of these service men and women was grounding and inspiring.
I visited The Fountains at Washington House, a retirement community in Alexandria, to perform seated massage to the senior population and was warmly welcomed with a full sign-up sheet of eager clients. The seniors were filled with energy and humor, and their appreciation for my therapeutic touch reminded me of why I love my profession so much!
The final event of the week took place at The Delancey in Shirlington Village. Barbara and I hosted an evening of seated massage for the residents which included hard working professionals, parents, and others just looking to de-stress. We did our best to unravel the shoulder and low back tension after a long day at the computer!
I wanted to share my experiences with you because I realized something very important -- regardless of age, health, occupation, or obstacle, everyone can benefit from massage therapy.
Have a safe & healthy holiday season!
