Yoga Therapy

What is Yoga Therapy?

Yoga therapy is the evidence-based application of yoga postures, exercises, mindfulness, meditation and breath work to address a client’s specific needs, whether it be to improve function and mobility or address other physical, emotional or mental symptoms the client is experiencing.

This new modality, with roots in ancient practice, is based on the understanding that human beings are made of five living domains: physical, psychological, cognitive, social, and spiritual, and when one of these domains malfunctions, all the others are affected, creating a unique experience of pain.

Yoga therapists are trained to do a thorough intake and assessment and develop an individualized plan to help the client move toward their goals regardless of any limitations.

Yoga therapy can help with the following conditions (including, but not limited to):

  • Muscle or joint pain
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Osteoporosis
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Insomnia
  • PTSD and other trauma
  • Diabetes
  • Cancer
  • Heart disease
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Prenatal and postpartum symptoms

Yoga therapy is complementary to other modalities including massage therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy and psychotherapy.

Our yoga therapist, Lara De Luca Truppo, is a 500-hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-500), holds a Master of Science in Yoga Therapy and is certified by the International Association of Yoga Therapists (C-IAYT).
